About the Authors
About the Authors
Betty Nguyen, MD is a physician specializing in dermatology. She was born in Southern California but spent much of her childhood in Georgia, where she grew up on a chicken farm. Betty studied Biology at UCLA, where she was a Gates Millennium Scholar, and earned her MD from UC Riverside on a full-tuition scholarship. Outside of work, Betty is a certified yoga instructor and licensed scuba diver. She also enjoys journalistic writing and cycling.
Brandon Pham, MD is a physician specializing in ophthalmology. He was born and raised in Southern California. Brandon studied Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA, where he was a Goldwater Scholar, and earned his MD from Stanford. He is passionate about medical education for students of all ages. In his free time, Brandon enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and running.

My kids and I love these books! The Nephrology for Kids book teaches how the kidneys clean blood, filter waste, and create urine. My kids don’t drink enough water, and I was impressed that the authors also teach about different urine colors. Now, my kids recognize whenever their urine is too dark and know that they need to drink more water! The book also does a fantastic job covering renal anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Love it!
Like the other books in this series, this nephrology book is colorful, beautiful, engaging, and easy to understand. We have family members who need dialysis, and I was very excited to see that the book discusses chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and ways to keep the kidneys healthy. Would highly recommend it for families and children who are curious about the human body.
This is a great book to learn all about the kidney in an easy to read format for kids. My 4 year old doesn’t yet understand everything but he thinks the kidney is a really cool organ that helps filter so many things. He thinks it’s funny that pee originates in the kidneys!
